Amy H. Anderson

Amy Anderson, a long-time resident of Leesburg, went home to be with her Lord and Jesus Christ on September 13, 2017. She transitioned peacefully at her home with her family by her side. Born in 1931 in Greenville, NC Amy received her Bachelor’s degree from Elizabeth City Teacher College now Elizabeth City State University. Amy began teaching in the Loudoun County Public School system in the 1960s at Banneker Elementary and retired from Catoctin Elementary in 1990s. After retirement, she worked for a short time in Lucketts at the day care housed in the Lucketts Old School. Amy wants to let everyone know that her teaching here is done. She received the ultimate call for a teaching position she couldn’t refuse. Her new teaching position takes her to a place where she will be socializing and laughing till her heart’s content. Amy was preceded in death by her husband Kelly Douglass, her brothers, Dutch (New York), Floyd (North Carolina), Levon (North Carolina) and Jesse (North Carolina) and her sister Mollie (Chicago) and niece Everlean (Philadelphia). She is survived by her daughter Carla Anderson, grandson Michael Clarkson Jr., and longtime companion Lawrence Farrell. Nieces and Nephews include Flo Whichard (Jerry) of Delaware, Yvonne Waterman (New York), Michele and Yvonne Harris of North Carolina. Shelton Wooten of North Carolina, Sylvia Douglass, Francine, Janice and Michael Harding all of Chicago, along with a host of grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, she is also survived by her “other” daughters Janet Wiggins (Leesburg), Loretta Hall (Herndon) and longtime girlfriend that she met soon after arriving in Loudoun, Mary Randolph (Leesburg) and Lula Thomas (Atlanta). You don’t have to speak everyday to your friends, but when you do finally speak and you still laugh, you’ve got a good one. In her later years, Amy loved going for “therapy”. Not the therapy found in a Dr.’s office but the therapy found at Delaware Downs, Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore and other casinos in the area. As a matter of fact, Amy got the news of her illness on May 11 but was in the casino with medication in pocket on May 13. She truly lived everyday to the fullest. The viewing will be on Monday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, followed by the Home Going Celebration at 12:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to The Virginia Association for Hospices and Palliative Care at www.virginiahospices.org in the name of Amy Anderson/Compassus. They are truly angels on earth is how Amy spoke of them. One of her last statements was, “Holly (the nurse) never makes me feel sick – even though she’s coming to the same house to see the same patient, she needs to stop asking me my birthday like I’m sneaking another patient in my place.” As her daughter tried to explain they are just checking your memory, she replies with, “It’s not my memory that got her here.” Always the last word, always shooting straight from the hip. We would have her no other way. Rest on Amy, Rest on.
