Carey was one of the most charming, dynamic, and beautiful women I ever met. She
had a beautiful voice and a sparkling laugh. And she was incredibly accomplished, managing to balance career and child-raising and then writing her books! I don't know how she did it all but she was just plain magic. Ave atque vale, dear dear Carey. You
will be deeply missed!

Carey is cherished by so many because she was one of those extraordinary people, who lived joyfully, lovingly, and consciously and touched the lives so many with her bright light, natural wisdom, and great talent.
She will always be a beloved friend to me and a loving and wise mentor. Our rich and varied conversations and shared experiences are in my heart.
I remember first meeting her at a Sophia Institute program in Charleston, and she sparkled so radiantly that I knew I was meeting a kindred spirit. It was a joyful connection that has continued for many years, and we were always blessed to have her with us.
She treasured her trips to Charleston, where she had lived earlier in her life. And, she happily brought family and friends to be with her here, many of whom I was so pleased to meet.
She spoke to me so often of her wonderful family and her great love for each of you.
Indeed, she will continue to live in all of our hearts.

It was a true joy and blessing to get to know Carey over this past year. Her zest for life, bright ideas and love for people was infectious. Spending time with Carey was a feeling of being valued, inspired by her creativity and uplifted by her engaging presence. My most cherished memories of Carey are of the way in which she freely shared her life stories with such enthusiasm and positivity as though we had been friends for years. Her knowledge of people in history and historical events was also very interesting to hear about during our road trips to Bethesda, MD. Her charm and happy energy have had such a positive impact on me that I hope to bring some of that positivity to the people in my life and to those that I have yet to meet. She was a remarkable woman and friend.
