Constance Knott Robbins

Constance Knott Robbins, 88, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 in Loudoun County, VA. The daughter of Delle Davis and Thomas Garland Knott, she grew up in New Albany, MS, where she met her future husband, Jack B. Robbins, at a Fourth Grade Picnic in their elementary school days. Connie, an outstanding student and accomplished pianist, graduated from New Albany High School in 1941, along with Jack. She attended Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis). In November 1942 she married her sweetheart Jack, who always called her “a good looker and a good cooker.” Soon she became a true Air Force wife, devoted to assisting her husband in his career and in rearing their children at duty stations from San Antonio, TX, to Ashiya, Japan; from Bedford, MA, to the Pentagon. Throughout those years she was active in the Officers Wives Clubs at each posting. She served often as an elegant hostess. She also continued her studies at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, as well as helping her husband study for his Spanish classes at the University of Alabama. Connie loved opera, classical music, and art. For years she listened faithfully to Live from the Met on the radio, and attended opera performances in New York and Washington, D.C. When time would permit, Jack and Connie enjoyed traveling to places such as Alaska, Russia, Germany, and the British Isles. Family was always important to her. She was predeceased by her husband and her youngest son, Mark (Grace) Robbins. Connie is survived by her daughter Kittye Delle (Stuart) Robbins-Herring, of Starkville, MS; her sons Jack Jr. and Paul, of Tuscaloosa, AL; her grandchildren Davis (Angela ) Herring, of Los Alamos, NM, Mary Elizabeth Robbins, of Marion, AL, and Mark Joseph Robbins, of Annandale, VA; and a great-grandson Ethan Seale Herring, of Los Alamos. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 11th at noon at the Falcons Landing Chapel on 20540 Falcons Landing Circle in Sterling, VA, with reception immediately following in the auditorium. A viewing will take place the same day from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel on Catoctin Circle Southeast in Leesburg, VA. Burial is scheduled for Thursday, April 12th at 10 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.
