George Edward Schropp, 93, a resident of Falcons Landing Military Retirement Community, Potomac Falls, VA, passed on April 7, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 virus. George was born October 1, 1926 in Rochester, NY, the second of Read Obituary
I was saddened to read of George's passing in the AFNOA Newsletter. i first met him in 1950 when we were aviation cadets, and he was my upper classman. He was a natural mentor and one of my heroes.
As an agemate and fellow retiree I commend him on a life well lived. May his soul rest in peace.

Our family was so saddened to hear of George’s passing. George was a wonderful man — it is no surprise that he leaves a large and beautiful family behind as his legacy. We are thankful for the big part he played in Thao’s life as a longtime mentor and great friend. George joined us for so many milestones, including our wedding and Thao’s graduate school graduation. We feel blessed to have shared many family gatherings with you all over the years as the kids were growing up. Our deepest condolences to your family. Steve Duggan and I are so sorry to hear of the passing of George. We met him years ago when we were teammates for the Beginning Experience ministry for divorced, separated and widowed. He was an important and effective member of the team as well as a lot of fun. We live near Falcon’s Landing and would have loved to have had a reunion with George. When our isolation ends, hopefully we can celebrate George’s life with Sherry.

My husband and I met George (and Sherry) over many dinners at Falcons Landing. My last memories of George were of his attending ballroom dancing lessons with us to brush up on his dance steps in preparation for the Holiday Gala. He was full of pep and willing to share a laugh with his friends. We will miss his smile, his twinkling eyes and his sense of humor. Our deepest sympathy to his family and all who loved him. My husband and I met George the same week-end we met each other, 24 years ago. It was at a week-end for those divorced or widowed. George and my husband served on the w/end team helping us who were there to do some important work through of the loss we had experienced. Later we met Sherry, and the 4 of us had many good times together, going to the Kennedy Center, lunch, dinner and just having good conversation.
George tried to help me with my early attempts to learn bridge. He was patient and informative, but I think we both soon knew I was not cut out for bridge!
He has a legacy of so many worthy attributes, none the least of those, his love for his family, his friends, and his God. Our sincerest sympathy to his family and to Sherry.

Good old George was an awesome man. He was a very giving and wonderful person, who had a heart of gold. I knew him as I was a young and impetuous/rebel engineer at the formerly known Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, MD.
His kindness was boundless, as he took me under his wing and provided advice and counsel when no one else would. His sharing of wisdom has been in the forefront of my actions, as I have sought to emulate what he so willingly shared with me and others he also came across at the base. Unfortunately, I lost touch with all of those who, as me, were so fortunate to have crossed paths with him.
At a point of my life when I was cherishing company during the Easter holiday, George and Shirley extended a very kind invite. Wow, what an awesome experience. More than 30 years since that occasion, I still find myself being deeply grateful for that kind act.
When a few years later I got engaged and later married, both George and Shirley were kind to make time and join in the celebration. They were both awesome kind people who will be missed and are fondly remembered.
May he rest in peace and find himself surrounded by loving souls, as his was.

I have counted George as a friend for many years. His friend Sherry and I were college friends. The three of us had many great times together with meals, games, bridge, and Wolf Trappe. George helped me with my book on my father's World War II experience, and I cited him for helping me with military information. What a wonderful long life George had and I will dearly miss him.
