Right now I am missing JM a lot because it’s about to be halloween and he loved giving candy to the kids and seeing the costumes. He would tease mom and I with scary movie references because horror movies give us nightmares, but he never wanted us to be REALLY scared, he just wanted to have fun. He would love the dog costumes and would probably help dad take them off when I’m not looking. He loved Halloween and it’s breaking me that he won’t be here with us this year. It’s heartbreaking missing him everyday, but I think it would be much worse if I didn’t miss him at all. I wish we could have him back. I’ll keep my eye out for a sign and will see his love of Halloween in every adorable trick or treater with the weird and wonderful character combinations that make no sense, but make them so happy. The pirate zombie and ninja princess. I miss him. I hope he has a happy Halloween wherever he is. I hope there are great costumes and plenty of sour candy. I love you JM. Happy Halloween!

I learned about John Michael from his sister and my coworker and friend, Megan. In our 3 years of knowing each other, she's shared stories about his love of the Eagles and sports in general. How amazing it was that he and his father attended the super bowl together. It was clear he was passionate about sports and family...and sounds like he had a great sense of humor too. Rest easy, JM. About 22 years ago we met up with Peggy, Tim and John Michael at PSU for a spur of the moment visit. To this day Andrew stands by his opinion that John Michael was the funniest child he ever met. I wish we could have gotten to know him more, but I will forever have a special spot in my heart for him.

John, this doesn’t feel real at all. We were just chatting about sports last week, planning more games to attend and talking all things VT and NBA playoffs. It’s crazy how all of that is gone. We go waay back from kids in Loudoun schools to adults. You were always someone who appreciated a good laugh, meme or sports debate and we had a ton. Fiercely loyal to your Philly sports teams and the Hokies like few others I knew. Your blog was always something I looked forward to just to engage in our passionate discussions. You were the guy I always said I’d pick for sports trivia with a prize pot on the line haha. I miss you and will never forget you brother. Rest in eternal peace.
