John Harry Wolff

John Harry Wolff, a devoted husband, father, business partner, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 19, 2024, at the age of 58 beginning his new eternal life. Born on November 20 in Freiburg, Germany, John lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep commitment to his family and community. His life journey led him to Hamilton, Virginia, where he made his home for the past 25 years with his beloved wife, Lisa, whom he married in 1989. Together, they built a strong and loving partnership, raising three extraordinary daughters: Madison 25, Hannah 24, and Emma 19. John graduated with honors from Shepherd University in 1988 with a degree in Business Administration, which was the foundation of his distinguished career in financial services. Throughout his life, John remained deeply connected to Shepherd University, serving as the financial investment advisor for the Shepherd University Foundation with Wealthspire Advisors, LLC. He played a key role in revitalizing the College of Business by serving on the Business 2020 Leadership Committee and the College of Business Advisory Board. During the successful “Create the Future” campaign, he and Lisa established the Lisa and John Wolff Fund to support the business program. John's generosity extended beyond financial contributions, as he served on the Alumni Association Board, sponsored the Women Investing in Shepherd (WISH) Grant Award Reception, and supported the Scarborough Society Gala. In recognition of their contributions, John and Lisa were inducted into the Joseph P. McMurran Society in 2005, Shepherd University’s most prestigious giving society. Professionally, John was a results-driven advisor, entrepreneur, and investor with over 30 years of experience. His career was highlighted by his roles as Managing Director at Wealthspire Advisors and CEO & Founder of both Capital Fiduciary Advisors and Loudoun Insurance Group. He was widely recognized for his expertise and integrity, receiving numerous accolades including Forbes' "Best-In-State Wealth Advisors" for the last three years, Washingtonian Magazine's "Top Financial Advisor" in 2022, Northern Virginia Magazine's "Top Financial Advisor" for the last three years, the National Association of Board-Certified Advisory Practices' "Premier Wealth Advisor" in Washington, DC, and SmartCEO Magazine's "Washington DC's Top Money Manager Award". John was also a pillar of the Hamilton and broader Loudoun County communities, serving on several boards, including the Board of Directors for Lead Virginia, Member and Treasurer of 100WomenStrong, and YMCA Loudoun County, where he was Chairman of the Board. His community involvement extended to Habitat for Humanity Loudoun County, the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, and the Community Foundation of Northern Virginia, where he was Investment Chair and part of the Executive Committee. Additionally, he co-founded the Loudoun Impact Fund through the Community Foundation for Loudoun & Northern Fauquier Counties. His most recent business venture included a partnership with cherished friends that flourished into the euro-inspired Bia Kitchen Restaurant in Purcellville, VA. He was known for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for those he loved, leaving a profound impact on all who knew him. If you knew John personally, you would often find him down at James Madison University cheering on the Dukes, meticulously taking care of his cars in his toy barn or bumping into him at the local car wash, listening to music, having a Guinness at the bar at Bia, taking a leisurely walk through his Christmas tree farm that he built on his property 20 years ago, skiing the slopes of Utah and Colorado, experiencing international trips and excursions with family and friends, spending time in the northern neck with family, racing his cars at Summit Point or taking scenic trips in his Porsche on the winding back roads of Virginia. He truly loved his life. John is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa; his daughters, Madison, Hannah, and Emma; and his extended family, including Ida Muller, Charlotte Pearson, in-laws Jack and Janet Blunt, his sister Carol Grunert (Bill), his brother Kevin (Sara), sister-in-law Sharon Blunt (Eric), nieces and nephews Stephen Blunt (Madeleine), Benjamin, Sarah, and Ryan Grunert, and great-nephew Baby Jack Blunt. He was predeceased by family members Gert Wolff and Marcel Muller. A Celebration of Life to honor John will be held on Tuesday, September 17, at 1 p.m. at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the John Wolff Legacy Fund which will benefit local nonprofit organizations that John supported to continue his philanthropic passions.
