Dad ... How do I pay tribute to your life and adequately express the impact you had on me and my life?! You taught me so much about all things mechanical and how to fix things or at least figure out a 'different' way to fix them. :-) You helped teach me soccer and baseball among other sports. You taught me that a day out fishing was not necessarily about catching fish. ;-) Most importantly, though, you gave me your time. You always had a to-do list that was a mile long but you didn't let that get in the way when I 'needed' something. Your patience was unlike anyone I have ever met in my entire life and I wish more of it had rubbed off on me. I thank you for your sense of humor. It always lightened the moment except for the one time I dropped that bolt down the distributor shaft of my 1966 Chevy the afternoon before I was supposed to be back at VA Tech and we didn't know if it made it all the way to the oil pan or not..! (It would have likely destroyed the engine had it not made it to the pan but it did end up getting there.) You taught me how to find the exact geographic center underneath a car -- you drop a very important bolt or screw -- it will come to rest on the garage floor in the exact middle of the car. ;-) You taught me all about the accepted rating scale of different tasks we embarked upon around the house; specifically as it pertained to working on cars. The task may be a "1, 2, or 3 knuckle job" indicating the number of knuckles you were going to bust wide open after said task was completed. And God help you on the '4 knuckle' jobs! You also taught me to be thick-skinned which helped immensely in the skydiving world... and the world in general. In short, you taught me how to problem solve. It takes ingenuity, thoughtfulness, patience, and humor. I hope I can be as complete for your grandsons as you were for me! I love you Dad and will see you again!
