Larry was the kindest person whom I’ve ever met during my NAVSEA career, and quite possibly, in my entire life.
I started in the Logistics Intern Program in the early 1990’s, and during this timeframe, there were, unfortunately, a number of less-than-kind individuals in positions of authority. After a few years here, with a few traumatic experiences, I was longing to extricate myself from these surroundings. Fortunately, I was transferred to Larry’s workgroup, and this restored my faith in my work environment, and more importantly, humanity. Larry was a wonderful mentor, supervisor, and friend. I don’t believe I heard Larry utter a cross word or exhibit an ounce of anger, although if he had shown anger, it would have been righteous.
It was quite heart-wrenching to learn of Larry’s illness; things such as this always raise questions in our minds. Why would such a loving, kind man have to go endure something such as this? Having watched my mother’s agonizing and ongoing decline from another illness, and the effect it had on my stepfather and the rest of our family, I greatly sympathize, but words and sympathy cannot fully wound broken hearts; only the Lord can heal this way, and through His Word, we can gain understanding and perspective.
Larry’s legacy is a great one, with the greatest part being the fond memories we will always have of him. My words here are insufficient.
I pray for blessings for his family and for all those who knew and loved him, in Yeshua’s name.
