Bob was a truly unique contributor to National Security, both through his imaginative research, development, and deployment successes, as well as, his concern and compassion in mentoring and leading people throughout the organization. I knew Bob for over 40 years. He was an excellent sounding board. When I was moved to the S&T in the early 90s, Bob helped me through the transition and reintroduced me to golf. Golf became a lasting bond, continuing through our retirement years, as co-workers on consulting jobs, and the annual Fantastic Florida Flogger Foray events.

Special. Always special. Drawing from his math and science interests and education, Bob's deft, compassionate handling of people led to numerous significant successes throughout his career. His keen interest in baseball, pursuing a little white ball in all manner of weather with a myriad of friends and playing a mean bridge game were just some of his outside pursuits. Bob was a talented, honest, humble and valued friend. As his deputy, for four of a thirty year career, I regard Bob as the finest of the persons I served under. His compassion and standards of exactitude were qualities that obtained the best from those he led and yielded a remarkable dividend to the country he served. Bob was not one to seek self recognition. Yet he generously rewarded others. It is little wonder that Bob remained a life-time friend to me and to so many others.

Bob was a colleague, sage adviser, great conversationalist, funny, and charming. Most of all, he was a true friend.
