I knew Mr. Rogers best through my close friendship with his son during our tumultuous teenage years.
SHR, Jr: Kind, inquisitive (and therefore, at times, bemused), occasionally regal in his natty suits and yet, never aloof. A wise father, he knew our teenage egos, struggles, dramas with each other, with girls and all our tricks. He gave Sam and his friends enough rein to run. But, his knowing grip firm, never enough rein for us to run to ruin. (Today, I thank him for that.)
I suspect, somehow, he still has his eagle eye on those he loved.
The family of Jeff Pero wishes God's Peace to a good man and His Grace to the Rogers family - and especially to a man I call a brother, Sam, III.
