June 12, 1952 - February 19, 2019
Deborah Ellen Idlett – Hillsboro, VA – Deborah died on February 19th, 2019. She left behind one daughter, Kaleigh, and son-in-law Chris, her brother, Doug and long-term partner in crime and sidekick, Ronnie and his son Aaron– All whose photos she would share with new friends in the checkout line. She was adored by two grandchildren Micah and Ivy and was the official advice giver, best friend and hero to scores of people from every walk of life. Debbie loved conversations with friends, being on time, animals, giving good advice, telling stories, back seat driving, drinking unsweetened ice tea and the Lake house. She hated sweet tea, throwing out recently expired food, the door left open, half-empty soda cans, the short straws from Sheets, paying credit card interest and inefficient customer service. Not necessarily in that order. She was witty, loved to have a good time and was committed to those with whom she surrounded herself. She was the ultimate master of charades, spending 20 + years being the voice of her paralyzed brother Doug. Three fingers and a quick motion to the left meant Doug wants French Fries, hold the salt and that he was uncomfortable with the climbing U.S. national debt. We were blessed to learn valuable life lessons from Debbie during her 66 years, among them: One cannot have enough straws in a vehicle, and it should be a crime to pull into a parking spot face forward. If a mouse family shows up at the foot of your passenger side seat, coax them out gently with a branch and an old jacket. Never underestimate the power of a zero percent credit card and the income generating potential of a rental property. If fruit flies infiltrate your wine - fear not they can be expelled by using a paper towel or napkin as a filter. She would reiterate this fruit fly story– a cherished memory – to family and friends around the fire late at night for years afterward. She was the kind of person that could learn to square dance privately in her room the night before teaching it professionally. She was perfection. She lit every room on fire with her passion and boldness. She had a green thumb and grew the same annual plant year after year, telling everyone “it just takes a little care.” She loved Harley Davidson and being the boss. She loved to be with family and friends and watch ‘Father knows best, Modern Family and This is Us. Friends can attend a memorial service honoring the life and legend on March 2nd, 2019 at Our Savior’s Way Lutheran Church at 1:00pm EST. 43115 Waxpool Road, Ashburn, VA 20148 Instead of flowers, Debbie would hope that you do a random act of kindness for some poor and unfortunate soul in her name. Or, donate to an animal shelter. Whatever floats your boat.
