James Patrick Harty Jr.

March 28, 1969 - March 17, 2020

James Patrick Harty Jr., 50, died unexpectedly in his home in Ashburn, Virginia on Tuesday March 17, 2020. Patrick, as known by his friends and family, was born March 28, 1969 to Patricia Ann Hill and James Patrick Harty Sr. in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the big brother of Patricia Jane Abrams. Patrick grew up in Bowie, Maryland and attended Bowie High School, graduating in the class of 1987. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from University of Maryland, College Park. He enjoyed creating art in college but decided to learn IT work after college and enjoyed a career at Citibank and later Freddie Mac. Patrick was a music and movie buff and also enjoyed collecting matchbooks. He will be remembered for his kind, generous heart and his willingness to help anyone in need. Many will remember fun times working with him at Bob's Big Boy and his obsession with Monte Carlo SS cars. "I'm Free" by Anne Lindgren Davison Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play Tasks left undone must stay that way, I’ve found that peace at the close of day If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow My life’s been full, I’ve savored much, Good friends, good times, my loved one’s touch If my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief Lift up your heart, rejoice with me, God wanted me now, He set me free. Patrick is predeceased by his father, James Patrick Harty Sr., grandparents Ann & Robert Laird and Lorraine Gardner & John Harty II., aunts and uncles, Susan Kopcak, Rosalynne Gillespy and Timothy Harty. He is survived by former wife Judith Wang, mother, Patricia Hill and husband Raymond, sister Patricia Abrams and husband Alan, step-sisters Kim Slocum and husband Glen, Karen Russell and husband Jack (deceased), beloved nieces and nephews, Aiden Colletti, Colter Colletti, Maddison Mudgett and husband Matthew, Kelsey Abrams, Allison Slocum, Samuel Slocum, Carrly Russell and Jilli Russell, many cousins and loving friends. Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
