March 3, 1937 - June 10, 2018
Roger Huston Brumm of Sterling, VA passed away on June 10, 2018. He was born on March 3, 1937 in Muskegon, Michigan to Margaret and Maurice Brumm. When he was young his family moved to Bladensburg, MD. He would graduate from Bladensburg High School and subsequently move back to Muskegon. There he worked for A.J. Valliers Sons as a painter. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Gail R.E. Brumm. After a few years in Michigan they moved their family back to the D.C. area. He then began a long career as a Cartographer working for the Army Map Service for 37 years. Roger played baseball most of his life. When he moved to Virginia he played in the Loudoun Baseball League. He mainly played hardball for Lovettsville and didn’t stop playing until the age of 53. During that time he also played softball for many teams in Virginia and Maryland area. His love and knowledge of the game led him to coaching Little League Baseball in the Sterling area. As an avid sports fan, Roger supported local home teams like the Redskins. But his dedication never wavered from support of his old home teams including the Detroit Lions and most especially the Detroit Tigers. He always found great joy in attending games of baseball his kids and grandkids were playing, watching hockey with other kids and grandkids and in recent years learning more about soccer because of other grandkids’ interests. Roger also loved being outdoors, whether it was working on cars or working in the yard. He was content to go from planting roses to mowing the lawn. Ask him anything about gardening and he knew the answers. He spent time every year attending the car show/swap meets in Carlisle, PA. Just being there and seeing the vehicles both refurbished and not was a great way to spend a weekend. He loved trains, all things Marilyn Monroe and old Westerns. He had fond memories of going to the movies as a kid and watching Audie Murphy and Roy Rogers. And much like his uncle before him, Roger could tell a story. Ultimately, Roger was most happy spending time with his family. Whether it was time with one or two of his kids or grandkids, or having the whole big gang together at once. He loved being with his family. Roger is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gail R.E. Brumm. Preceded in death by his son, Terry P. Brumm, Roger is then survived by his children, Connie B. Clarke (son-in-law, Rick), Bryan R. Brumm (daughter-in-law, Dorie), and Bruce H. Brumm. He is survived by his brothers, Maurice Brumm (Fran), James Brumm (Moonean), and Bruce Brumm. He has nine wonderful grandchildren, Patrick, Christian, William, Margaret, Kelly, Matthew, Krissy, Jerrett, Danyelle, as well as one great-grandson, Colton. Roger will also be missed by the many other family members and friends who love and care for him. There will be a memorial service for friends and family at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the “Lower Loudoun Little League in memory of Roger H. Brumm”.
