Roger Neil Mason Sr.

September 3, 1948 - September 21, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Neil Mason, Sr., 73, at the Southeast Georgia Hospital on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 with his children by his side. Roger was born September 3, 1948 to Jessie Robert and Margaret Carter Mason in Bassett, Virginia. He lived in Portsmouth, Virginia until 1976 when he moved to Loudoun County, Virginia. He was an air-traffic controller (Roger “Ramjet”) by trade. Later, he opened a home decorating business and became an antiques dealer at his longtime home in Middleburg, Virginia. He loved vacationing at his second residence of eight years on St. Simons Island in Georgia, where he loved bird-watching, entertaining family and friends, and always searching for the best shrimp on the island. He also loved spending time with his family, dancing, travelling and card playing -- especially Hearts! He was a friend to all who knew him and had a natural gift in making everyone around him happier. Most nights you could catch him at the Red Horse Tavern just enjoying life and the company of his Middleburg family. He was the loving father of Yvonne Eble and her husband Kevin, Roger Neil Mason, Jr. and Linda Mason. Proud grandfather “Pa” of Kristin Sundheimer and her husband Jeremy, Kyle Eble, Abigail Conry, Quinn Conry, Carter Conry and Michael Conry and great-grandfather to Lincoln Sundheimer. He is survived by his two sisters, Pam Overstreet and Betty Moose and her husband Tommy. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Jessie Robert Mason and David Mason. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and many, many good friends. Above all, Roger was passionate and proud of his grandchildren and great-grandson. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE in Leesburg from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at 1:30 p.m. The memorial will begin at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Lung Association at action.lung.org.
