It has been more than a week since I learned of Henry’s passing away. I am deeply grieved and my heart hurts for his beloved family who are heartbroken.
Thus, I have spent these past days recollecting cherished memories of the joyful times we spent with Henry and Vange in California almost three decades ago. What stands out in my memories are: Henry’s love for God, his devotion to his wife/family, and his kind and cheerful spirit.
My husband Rico and I and our young daughter were recipients of the Fundas’ warm hospitality countless times, and we were blessed with lovely dinners prepared by dear Vange, and lively conversations and fellowship. Henry always had a huge smile on his face and his merry eyes, and loved to be called “Hank” by the kids. We were always welcome in their home and we enjoyed each visit.
It is good to look back and remember those wonderful times and feel grateful to God for the blessing of kinship in the Lord.
Rico and I were blessed to have Henry as an older brother in the Lord during the early years of our marriage, and we thank the Lord for the opportunity to have known him and served the Lord alongside him in the church we went to back then.
There is much comfort in knowing that Henry is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father where we all long to be. I am praying for his loved ones who are hurting and missing his earthly presence. May all grieving hearts be comforted by our Lord in the coming weeks, months and years…May happy and loving memories of their dearest Henry eventually bring smiles to their faces again … And most importantly, may their hope in God bring them peace and strength.

Gives me joy to remember back in the day when Henry and his college “barkada” came to know the Lord and became part of the Onyx church family. We were blessed by their faithfulness and their God-given talents/gifts used for the ministry.
Praise God for a life well-lived - serving the Lord, providing for his family, being a loving husband and father. He will be missed by so many of us.

I met Henry and Vangie in the early 1990s, when I was a young believer in Christ and newly married to my wife, Cecilia. Our friendship grew as we matured in our faith together—through Sunday worship, fellowship, and the Bible studies of our church’s young professionals group.

Henry was the kind of person you always looked forward to seeing. He had a cheerful spirit and an infectious smile that could brighten anyone’s day.

We eventually lost touch when Henry and Vangie moved to the East Coast, though Cecilia and Vangie stayed in touch through text messages. The last time I saw Henry was about 15 years ago, during a business trip to the Washington, D.C. area. I reached out, and we ended up having dinner—well past midnight—at a 24-hour Korean BBQ place. It was a sweet time of fellowship and catching up, as if no time had passed at all.

I’m deeply saddened by Henry’s passing. But as a fellow believer in Jesus Christ, I find comfort and joy in knowing that Henry has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and is now in the presence of our Lord.

My husband and I remember Henry as a very gracious host when our family visited L.A., his good sense of humour kept us laughing a lot. Krispy Creme was still the craze then and he proudly showed us where it is made. I remember Henry as a committed Christian and a devoted husband to my dear friend Vanj. He has graduated from this world and is now in the bosom of his Heavenly Father. . Love Nona

We were greatly saddened to hear of the passing of the kind and jovial Henry Funda. He was a friendly and compassionate man who had a perpetual smile.

I was Kara's principal for many years and my wife was the school secretary of the school (Temple Baptist.) Our interactions with Henry were always warm. I will never forget the gratitude he showed our school staff by taking the entire high school staff to lunch after Kara graduated. Henry demonstrated agape love: he loved God, he loved his wife and family, and we know he loved our school, something I never took for granted. A supportive parent means the world and Henry and Evangeline were the epitome of that.

We grieve for Evangeline and Kara and we pray for God's peace.

The wonderful thing to remember in this season of sadness, is that Henry is with Christ and the Scriptures promise those who trust in Him that there is a wonderful reunion someday. We look forward to that day when we see his smiling face again.

Loloy Henry, is now heaven’s gain. A very kind, pleasant and a caring person. Never forgotten his visayan dialect. Always greets saying “unsa naman” with a big smile, and his smiles were contiguous. A jokester but had an unwavering faith with God. Love to Vangie and Kara.

We were always treated with kindness by Henry. He was such an asset to our Bible study and fun to be around. He was always willing to serve and help out whenever needed. When we visited Virginia years ago he was the utmost gracious and generous host to us. Although he was a brilliant man, he never made anyone feel beneath him. Henry and Vanj were one of the first Christian couples we knew. Vanj lived with Lillibeth when I was in the Philippines. When I got back to the US, Henry followed. We became so close. Henry was my Christian buddy. Time has wrought our fellowship when they moved to another state. While we are longing to rekindle this fellowship, it would be without Henry for the moment. But neither time nor distance will ever dim our fond memories of Henry whose laughter and wisdom we shall never forget. Or better yet to say, “…Neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”(Rom8:38-39). Go with God, Henry, and God bless you, Vanj!

in honor of Henry.

When Kara, me, and our friends were in college, Mr. Funda and his wife took a special care in all of us. They were so kind and got to know us and were always wondering how we were doing. Outside of those few moments, we didn't speak, but Kara has been an immense blessing to all of us throughout the years, and we very much so have him to thank for raising her so well. His passing was tragic and heartbreaking, and he will be missed very much, but we rejoice in God's love for sending his Jesus to save Mr. Funda's soul, and that right now they are face to face, and we will all see again someday.
