Within the very first hour of meeting Gramma Graves, this was our conversation.
Gramma: "Alright, dinner's in the oven. I'm going to bridge club."
Me: "Have fun, and don't do anything I wouldn't do."
Gramma: "Well, that leaves things pretty much wide open for me, doesn't it!"
And she smiled that smile, while closing the door behind her.
Me: "Gramma, I think I broke your garage door. I pulled on the red rope, and that didn't make the door open."
Gramma (somewhat joking): "You know, that's gonna cost me $100 to get someone in here to fix it!"
Ogie: "Aw, Mom, I'll fix it. Stop scaring Susan."
My grandmother was a remarkable lady. She blessed us with her unconditional love and young at heart spirit, and taught us how to live life. I aspire to be just like her, live life to its fullest, have a sharp mind, and be awesome. She will be missed here on earth, but we are all on loan via the flesh to do God's will. Her graceful work is done and now heaven has gained a true angel.
We have been told God sends us what we need in times of troubled waters, for me it was Betty. She not only taught me to love the game of bridge but more importantly by her example taught me how to handle life's aging challenges with dignity and grace. She took me under her wing, introduced me to her friends and family and was always a good listener. She was like the sister I never had. I am so blessed to have had Betty as a friend. She will always be missed and remembered by me.
I pray for peace and comfort for her family and friends.
