Our "family" at Harris Teeter will miss one of the friendliest faces to shop with us. I was so sad to read about his passing. Our hearts go out the the Payne Family and we know he will be greatly missed.

Doug was an amazing person who our family has had the pleasure to know. He was always a joy on the vacations that our families would take together and he was an outstanding and hilarious coach on the field. He was always able to make us laugh and he will be greatly missed.

This comes as a complete saddened shock to me. Doug was my sons baseball coach. He is the one who made the numbers "714" significant to us and the Dulles Little Team who was a part of that team knows that number as well. I am so sad to hear of Doug's passing. He was a great man and I will miss my weekly run-ins at Giant. Great memories of you will live on forever. You will be missed for sure! My thoughts and prayers are with Barbara, Chris and the entire family.

You started out as a new school bus driver, you became a friend that I came to cherish. You touched so many lives that your smile, your laugh, your wisdom will live on forever. Watch over us until we meet again....my friend, you will be missed more than you will ever know....

Our time together was once a year when we got to see the Payne Family at the Family Reunions but Uncle Doug made time stand still. We shared many laughs and made memories to keep for a lifetime. We will miss you more than words can express. The Lord has chosen to take one very special Man to heaven to become one Amazing Angel. It will be a wonderful reunion when we meet up with you again Uncle Doug!

I'm still shocked. Didn't I just see you and wave?? I'll miss making silly faces as we pass each other during our bus routes and taking a few minutes to swap stories. Thoughts and prayers to your family and I know you're now watching over them.

So sad and sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I am Barbara's hairdresser, and grew fond of Doug through the many years of stories that Barbara has shared with me. Such a great family man. I am so sorry for the family's loss of a great man. Our thought and prayers are with you all, with love, Dianne and Gary Lawhorne
