Our deepest sympathy to the family of Roy Frank Schwartz. May he have eternal peace.
We, Bill and Lois Freeland, were neighbors of the Schwartz family for over 13 years in Fredericksburg. Our son, Billy Freeland was a friend of Roy's from about the fifth grade through high school. Bill and I did not get to know Roy as well as one would have thought because we both, like Roy's father, worked in Washington, DC and was off early in the morning and arrive back home many times at dusk. Roy while in high school was quite an athlete and was always practicing. Roy was who he was because he had a strong loving Mother and a wonderful and supportive Father. All the Schwartz children were kind, loving and respectful of all others.
God be with you in your love. "In him was life, and that life was the light of men. (John 1:4).
We will pray for you all to feel the peace that passes all understanding in knowing Roy is safe in the tender arms of our Lord.
Love to you all, Bill and Lois Freeland-
Sharon, I am so sorry to hear of Roy's passing. I hired Roy at MCI sometime around 2003???? I left the organization in 12/2004. Annually around the holidays I would get a lovely email from him wishing my family and I a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. My husband passed away in 12/2012 and this was Roy's note to me:
Hello Barbara,
Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers…
No one can ever put themselves in ones shoes during times like this, because we all handle things differently and situations/circumstances are all different…but, what I can say, is remember the good times and always think positively. I lost my Mom 22 years ago and not a day goes by where I don’t remember and thank her for everything that she did for me in my life…she was the most important person in the world to me and still is…and I speak w/ her every day.
Much love to you, Rachel and Eric. Time will pass and the hurt will subside and the love and remembrance will always be there until your paths cross again…
I hope that 2013 is blessed for you is a good year!

I will miss Roy. He was a kind and a joy to have on my team. My thoughts and prayers are with you Sharon. May your memories bring you laughter and a smile to your face instead of tears.

Hi, I’m Gordon Mclean. I was lucky enough to have Roy working on my team over the past three years. Every year at Thanksgiving I reflect on the year and look for things that I’m thankful for. On our weekly team meeting at Verizon I would share with the team that I was very thankful for all them. How we support each other, share our knowledge and bond as a team. It was a discussion that Roy seemed to like very much. Shortly after the meeting ended I received this email from Roy.
Good morning All,
I hope that this email finds you well and that you had a good evening.
Wishing everyone all the best this Thanksgiving and holiday weekend!
Thank you all for all the things that you do! I am fortunate to work with each and every one of you. Ya’ll help me to be the best person that I can be. The ‘scope’ of our interaction may be limited to mostly ‘work’, but we spend so much of our time at work...thus, these interactions/experiences inevitably impact who we are...even in our personal lives. The good and bad interactions will come and go...and even if we don't know it at the time, they help to define us as individuals.
Thank you all for your support, assistance, criticism, praise, but most importantly – for being a part of my life’s journey and the positive impact you have made. I feel blessed to know you and really do believe that I am a better person for having worked with and with knowing all of you.
All the best to you and yours and be sure to give thanks and to share the love...and if travelling, please have safe travels.

Roy was a very kind, respectful and caring man. My condolences to Sharon and the Swartz family.
I am deeply saddened and so very sorry to hear that my son-in-law Roy has passed and is now in heaven. ..It is heartbreaking to know that my oldest daughter Sharon has lost her "Roy" ..who was her whole world for 26 years! Roy was a special young man and I will always remember how loving he was with Sharon and all of the family, and how his smile would light up a room! ..He had a special place in my heart and I will miss seeing him, and how he called me "Ma" ..and miss knowing that he is not with Sharon.. I would like to send very special heartfelt condolences, love and prayers to Sharon, Roy's entire family and to all of his friends. Roy was an honorable, polite and an honest family member... God Bless You Roy ..May You Rest In Peace .. Love, Hugs and Prayers.. Christine M Turner
So sad to hear about Roy. My family lived across the street from the Schwartz family on Lincoln Dr in Waverly Village for many years. They were great friends to us.We have very fond memories of Roy and also of the family. Our deepest sympathies to your family. Roy was always extremely kind to me and my family. In Sympathy, Kim(Brown) Donaldson, Savannah, Georgia.
I idolized Roy and his basketball playing in high school but remember him most for the depth of his kind heart. Grace to the family in this great loss. Jill Bevan
Late Sunday night, January 22, 2012, I suffered a 'cardiac event', which for any 49-year old male is a rather significant, life-changing event - a wake-up call, so to speak, where perhaps you first confront your own mortality head-on. When I returned to work, Roy was one of the first people to reach out to me, sharing his story, providing his support, and I remember to this day our talking on the phone like two veterans sharing our own personal war stories....
Roy deeply touched the hearts of so many people across Verizon. His emails were almost legendary -- you could be having an absolute bear of day and Roy's email would come across your screen, "Good day, Rod, I hope that this email finds you well and that you are having a nice day..." An eternal glimpse of sunshine boring a hole through your dark cloud... The old adage "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" was always Roy...I know I never wanted to let him down.
Roy shared stories and photos, he sent birthday emails -- he was one of those people who made you proud to work alongside them -- he was the warm human face and spirit within what can be at times a very impersonal corporation. He cared about the people he worked besides every day, in seemingly everything he did. Roy will truly be missed, but his mark on many of us will never be forgotten. We were simply lucky to have been touched by his life...
