ADA NEAL HAWKS's Obituary
Ada Mae Neal Hawks Departed this life at the home of her daughter in Lovettsville, VA on June 4, 2023
Born September 11, 1932, in Blountville, TN to Arthur “Ott” Neal and Emma Mae McCrary Neal.
She was married to John R. Hawks, Jr of Bristol Tn on May 1, 1958, for 45 years until his death in 2003.
She was a 1952 graduate of Blountville High School. She and her identical twin sister, Ida, played on the Blountville Tigers girls basketball team and were members of the Glee club.
After marrying, she and John moved to Chicago, Ill where their only child, Susan, was born in 1961. In 1969 they moved to Nashville, TN where they owned two restaurants from the mid 1970’s thru 2003: The Knife & Fork on Gallatin Rd in East Nashville, then later the Stahlman Building Restaurant in downtown Nashville on Union St.
Ada returned to east TN to Elizabethton to be with and help care for her sister Ida, then went to live with her daughter in the Northern Virginia-D.C. area after the death of her beloved twin in February of 2021.
Ada was predeceased by her sister, Ida Hale of Elizabethton, TN, three brothers Joseph Neal (infant), Kenneth Lee Neal & wife Dorothy and Virgil E. Neal & Wife Jessie of Blountville, TN, and her beloved nephew & fellow sports enthusiast, Todd Hale of Elizabethton, TN.
Ada was an avid Tennessee VOLS and Tennessee Titans Fan, especially the Lady Vols basketball team.
She adored her three great grandchildren, Timmy & Asher Harrison and Aubrey Abbasi. They were the light of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Hawks Heskett and beloved son in-law Frank of Lovettsville, VA. Two granddaughters, Sarah Heskett-Abbasi (Cristofer & Aubrey) of Brunswick, MD and Amy Heskett-Harrison (Timothy, Timmy & Asher) of Bunker Hill, WVA, Mark Hale of Elizabethton, Tn., Great-niece Cierra Hale-Fannon (Todd) & husband Justin of Elizabethton, TN beloved sisters-in law from the Hawks family, Jewel Leonard, Jane Hawks, Barbara Kinnaird & Patti Hawks and several other nieces and nephews from the Hawks, Hale and Neal families.
Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN on a future date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choosing or to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Lovettsville, Virginia 20180 in memory of Ada.
