Major Andrew P. Evanko's Obituary
Major Andrew P. Evanko, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024. Patrick retired from the United States Air Force and also served in the United States Navy during Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Newport News.
Patrick was the son of the late George A. Evanko and the late Anne Marguerite Thobois Evanko.
Patrick leaves many family members across the U.S., Canada, and France, and dear friends in Virgina, Guam, and Utah to cherish his memory. Patrick is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Nancy Tynan Evanko.
He was predeceased by his parents, beloved nieces Megan Tynan and Nicole Neill, brother-in-law, Roger, and much-loved parents-in-law, Edward A. and Constance M. Tynan.
Patrick had many loves during his lifetime. He treasured being a “Dog Daddy” and raising six golden retrievers with Nancy: Travis, Joshua, Eli, Zeke, Egon, and his beloved “white shadow” Brodie.
Patrick adored his big family, to include special relationships with Cheryl (Rich), Tracy (Laura), Glen (Michelle), and Lisa (Peter); his Thobois family in France: Uncles Daniel and Francois, Aunts Gisele and Yvonne, and cousins, to include his godchild, Vero, and her daughter Elisa, and special niece Genevieve Godin, Ph.D.
Patrick loved being an Uncle and was affectionately known as “Uncle Pat” by Sean, the late Megan Tynan, Nicholas, Stephanie, Connie, Michael, Shane, and Delaney.
Over the course of their marriage, Patrick took great joy planning numerous travel adventures with Nancy to France, Scotland, Ireland, Turkey, Spain, England, and other locations.
Patrick leaves a sister, Gigi Godin, nieces, Genevieve Godin (Wes), Dani Rice (Todd), Nicole Neill (Shawn), nephews Roger Godin Jr. and Robert Godin (Teri), and children of his nieces and nephews, Faith, Kyra, Evan, Kyle, Chase, and Finn.
Patrick’s family will be holding a private Celebration of Life.
Patrick recognized and celebrated the amazing life he enjoyed. In February 2020, Patrick began the most courageous and selfless battle of his life, with Nancy by his side, after receiving a diagnosis of ALS. Patrick was forever grateful to the expert and kind staff at the Washington D.C. VA ALS Clinic, the Paralyzed Veterans of America and John’s Hopkins for their guidance, advocacy, and compassion.
To my Patrick: I love you much (most beautiful darling) more than anyone on the earth and I like you better than everything in the sky. -E.E. Cummings
