Ann Elizabeth Francis. nee Moylan
October 14, 1927-December 16, 2015
Ann Elizabeth Francis, a native of Melbourne, Australia, died at her home in Ashburn, VA on December 16 after a brief illness. She was 88 and was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, William Eldridge Francis, a native of Richmond, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late John William Moylan and Emma Prieto Moylan.
Ann was educated in Melbourne where she developed a lifelong love for books and reading. She left Australia at age 18 eventually making her way to New York City where she found employment with the United Nations. She had numerous jobs with the UN including a stint in Paris with UNESCO, serving as the resident representative for the UN in Ecuador after which she ended up back in New York working for the UN Development Program until her retirement in 1990.
Following her retirement, she and her husband lived in France where Ann capitalized on her fluency in French and had more time for her piano studies. They had a lovely home in the Dordogne region of France with their beloved dog Zazi. They moved back to the States in 2000 and settled in the
Virginia countryside near Warrenton, VA. She spent her final years in an assisted living facility near Ashburn, VA.
Ann is survived by her brother Patrick Moylan and a beloved sister-in-law Ana Maria Moylan both of who live in Melbourne with their families. She is also survived by five stepchildren, Barbara Francis Musser, Julianne Francis Pickett-Heaps, Dana Francis Bennet, John Francis, and George Ross Francis and by several step grandchildren.
Her wishes were that she be cremated and that any service be restricted to family. Ann lived a long and eventful life and she will be missed by her family and friends
Services and interment will be held privately by the family.
