Anne Maria Frketich's Obituary
Anne Maria Frketich, 60, of Round Hill, Virginia, lost her fight against Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and died at INOVA Fairfax Hospital on Sunday, June 4, 2017. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, at the Northside Hospital on April 10, 1957, to parents Stanley and Lena (Marchesano) Kadreff (both previously deceased). While living in Ohio, she graduated from Ursuline High School, Youngstown State University, and then Kent State University, respectively, obtaining a Master of Library Science degree. She moved to the Northern Virginia area in 1995, eventually working as a contractor and then staff librarian at the Food and Drug Administration, staff librarian at the National Library of Medicine, and then senior staff librarian at the Armed Forces Medical Library (AFML) directly supporting the Inspector General of the U. S. Army. During her tenure in the workforce, she garnered many and various awards, received promotions and out-of-cycle step increases, and the admiration of all her peers and supervisors. She was truly a shining star destined for success beyond her wildest dreams. She was finally diagnosed with MS in August 2002 when her symptoms suddenly appeared literally overnight, yet continued to be fully active at AFML until August 2010, when she retired with disability due to the progression of her MS disease. She leaves behind Maggie (her “big kitty”), Michael (her husband), Michele (Italian spelling) Kadreff (her brother), and Anita (her cousin) and John Whiteley, all of whom miss her dearly. An informal/very casual remembrance or final goodbye will be held on Saturday, June 17th, from 2-4pm at Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA. In summary: “MS is hell” and “This wasn’t in my retirement handbook.”
