Annie Hammonds Lawson's Obituary
Annie Hammonds Lawson, 88, of Martinsburg, WV passed away on Tuesday, September 20th 2011 in Martinsburg. Mrs. Lawson was born August 2nd 1923 in Pennington Gap, VA to the late James Peter and Della Minerva Coffman Hammonds. Her husband, John Walter Lawson and four siblings also predeceased her. Mrs. Lawson loved playing on girls’ basketball teams growing up. She lettered in basketball while at Pennington High and received a medal for Outstanding Female Athlete during her senior year in 1944. The year after graduating she married and would move to Ashburn, VA during 1962. Mrs. Lawson loved to cook and provide good food for friends and family. She will be remembered for her wonderful bread, cakes and fried chicken. She worked as a cook with the Loudoun County Public Schools until retiring in 1997. Mrs. Lawson moved to Martinsburg in 2002.
Mrs. Lawson is survived by her beloved five children: Jimmy D. Lawson (Ingrid) of Potomac Falls, VA, Sue A. Catterton (Gene Hose) of Martinsburg, WV, Kenneth R. Lawson (Kathy) of Ashburn, VA, Jilda C. Krise of Harpers Ferry, WV, Tonya D. Foley of Winchester, VA; a sister: Pearl Holmes of Big Stone Gap, VA; 26 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one on the way, and a host of other relatives and friends including Jimmy Williams.
Friends may call on Friday, September 23rd 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE, Leesburg, VA. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am on Saturday September 24th at The Worship Center, 19227 Gleedsville Rd. in Leesburg with Pastor Joseph Adams officiating. Interment will be in Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, VA.
