Arthur Barry Guntner's Obituary
Arthur B. Guntner, 77, of Inwood, WV, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 21, 1939 in Morgantown, WV, and is the son of the late Kathleen Blaney Guntner and Frank Guntner.
Mr. Guntner enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958 and served for over twenty years, retiring in 1979 as a Senior Chief stationed in Washington, DC. His most memorable assignment occurred in the early 60’s while working with the Mercury astronauts in Johnsville, PA. Flying with the Hurricane Hunters out of Jacksonville, FL in the 70’s was a close second. After retiring from the Navy, he embarked on a career in the construction industry in the Washington, DC area. He was very active in the Jaycees during his time in Jacksonville, was an above-average fast-pitch softball pitcher and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, friends, family or a complete stranger. He had a quick wit, was a fantastic singer and was an avid WVU sports fan.
He is survived by his wife Faye Edwards Guntner; his sister Mary Joyce Guntner Willis and her husband Walter of Oak Ridge, TN; his daughter Ellen Guntner Baumann of Houston, TX; his son Dean Guntner of Ocala, FL; his son Chuck Guntner and his wife Dori of Leesburg, VA; five grandchildren (Sean Baumann, Rachel Guntner, Kendall Guntner, Madison Guntner and Lee Guntner); and two nephews (Tom Fox and Michael Fox).
