Arthur Phillips' Obituary
Arthur Phillips, 93 of Leesburg, Virginia passed on Sunday, June 4, 2017.
Born Friday, February 8, 1924 in Waterford, Virginia, he was the son of the late John Phillips and the late Celia Wise Phillips. He attended Loudoun County Public Schools. As a young man Arthur worked on the farm, and then as a police guard in Leesburg, VA. He moved to MD for a few years, upon his return married his first wife Sara Phillips, with whom they fostered several children.
At that time, he was a member of MT. Pleasant Baptist Church in Luckett’s, VA. He served as a deacon, and chairman for the church.
After the passing of Sarah, Arthur opened and operated Phillips Trash Service in 1943. He joined and became and active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Hamilton. He joined the church choir, was a deacon, and served on the board of Trustees. In 1999, he met and married his beloved wife Maxine Elizabeth Day Carter Phillips, of Leesburg, VA. Presently, Arthur was the eldest member of the church.
He leaves his family to cherish his memory including his wife Maxine, of Leesburg, VA, his foster sons, Ronnie and Wayne Phillips, step son John Carter, foster daughter, Elizabeth Scott, step daughter Mary Carter.
Funeral services will begin at 11 am on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 250 W Virginia Ave, Hamilton, VA 20158.
Interment will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church.
