Audrey May Speacht's Obituary
Audrey May Speacht, age 88, passed away peacefully and quietly on March 30, 2016 at Heritage Hall Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Leesburg, VA. Formerly of Fairfax, VA and Clearwater, FL, and most recently a 5 year resident of Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Leesburg, VA, Audrey was loved by many and had the ability to make friends everywhere she went, no matter the circumstances, and even in her final weeks was still making special relations with those that were caring for her. Audrey was born in Canada on May 12, 1927 to the late Rosemary Catherine Brian and the late Samuel Grinham. She grew up in Canada & Michigan with her 3 sisters until 1946 when she left home to run off and marry the love of her life, the late Charles F. Speacht Jr., a tall handsome Navy man from Pennsylvania. Together Audrey and Charles enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, entertaining family and friends, and working together in their own real estate business. They were long time members of the Fairfax Country Club and also the Countryside Country Club in Clearwater, FL. They worked hard and played harder, enjoying all life had to offer. After Charles' passing in 1984, Audrey persevered maintaining multiple properties in both VA and FL, and tended to their real estate company on her own. They had one son, the late Charles "Chuck" F. Speacht, III, whom she adored. Audrey passed on her love of playing cards to son Chuck, and together they were known to make frequent trips to the casino where they enjoyed the games of Blackjack and Poker. Unfortunately, Chuck lost his battle with cancer in 1997. After losing her husband and only son, Audrey continued to persevere with her strong will, and great support of her many friends and remaining family.
Audrey is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and also 2 sisters, Dorothy Axford and Beverly Travenetti. She is survived by her sister Patricia Ososkie, of Michigan, grandson Charles F. Speacht, IV and wife Laura DeAnne Speacht, of Leesburg, VA, and granddaughter Kristina L. Earley and husband William Paul Earley, of Leesburg, VA. She is also survived by her 4 great grandchildren, Chase and Rylee Speacht, and Luke and Nathan Earley, whom she loved "a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck." Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life, and she took enormous joy in sharing in their many activities and special occasions.
As one of the first residents of the newly opened Spring Arbor of Leesburg in 2011, Audrey had a huge influence on the various activities and outings that took place there. She loved Bingo, Happy Hour, Friday lunch outings, and most of all, the monthly trip to the Charlestown Casino.
Audrey touched the lives and hearts of many, and she will be missed greatly. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, VA. Interment will follow later this year at Arlington National Cemetery where her ashes will join the final resting place of her late husband.
