First of all, my deepest sympathy to Sandra, John and all members of the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I will donate to the LVFD in her honor.
My friendship with Barb began back in August, 1970, when she called to inform me that I had got the job at the law firm Hall, Monahan, Engle, Mahan and Mitchell. (Boy that was a mouthful when we had to answer the phone!) Her first words to me were "there are going to be two of us"! We sat across from each other. She was Barb Sr. and I was Barb Jr. From the very beginning we bonded and I knew we were going to be kindred spirits for life! We shared many days of laughter at the office. One incident I recall was when we decided to draw up a Petition requesting that we be allowed to wear pantsuits in the office. Barb drew up the Petition in the same format that you would for the Court. We all signed it and then presented it to the partners and after a "hearing", we won our case! At the end of December, 1975, I left and moved to Florida. On my last day of work, we both cried, but even from a distance, we remained friends. Whenever I traveled back to Virginia, I always made it a priority to visit with Barb. Unfortunately, COVID prevented travel in 2020, so my last visit with her was in November, 2019.
Barb, you will always remain in my memories and each night as I look up to the stars, I know that I will see you shining down on us, watching over us with your love, strength and guidance. So shine on Barb! I am going to miss you so much but your spirit will always be with us. I know you're at peace and celebrating reuniting with Howard and Robin as well as that there are no snakes in heaven!!
