BARBARA SOROKA HONSHUL's Obituary
Barbara, or Baba as she was known by loved ones, 99, from Baltimore, MD, fell asleep in the Lord on December 6, 2025. Born December 8, 1925, in Mayfield, PA to Michael and Mary Soroka, she was the youngest of two children. She passed peacefully on St Nicholas Day, a favorite, just two days short of her 100th birthday!
After finishing her schooling in Mayfield, Barbara relocated to Baltimore, to be with her Aunt Olga and sister Vera. It was in Baltimore that Barbara met her future husband. She was married to William Honshul for 51 years and both had a son. She is survived by her son Gregory, daughter-in-law Lisa, cousin Lydia, and nieces, nephews and godchildren, Sandy, Daria, Joseph, and Janice. Barbara was predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary, husband William, sister Vera, godchild John and longtime church friends, Natalie and Marusha. Barbara's life reflected her dedication to family, friends and service to her church. She is a devout Orthodox Christian who served the church through her many good works including singing in the choir. She was happiest when surrounded during celebrations of life by gatherings of family and friends.
During the COVID scare, Barbara relocated to Leesburg VA to be with her son and daughter-in-law and enjoyed their final years together.
An Orthodox Prayers for the Dead service will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Ashburn, VA on 12/10/2025 from 3 to 6pm. The Orthodox funeral services will be held in Baltimore, MD at St Andrew Church on Saturday December 13, 2025, with visitation from 9 to 10am, followed by the funeral service, followed by the gravesite burial, followed by a luncheon reception (location to be announced).
Donations are appreciated and Barbara wished for them to be directed to either of her beloved communities, Holy Trinity or St Andrew Churches.
