Bernard Chasnov's Obituary
Bernard Chasnov, 88, a retired physicist for the U.S. Army, died of complications of prostate cancer May 27 at his home in Ashburn, VA. Mr. Chasnov was born December 31, 1919 in New York, NY to the late Samuel and Bella Pollack Chasnov.
Mr. Chasnov worked for the Department of the Army form 1946 until his retirement in 1984. He worked for various Army agencies including ERDL, SEANITOPS, and ASPO. Primarily, his work concerned night vision equipment and remote sensing.
In retirement, Mr. Chasnov volunteered for the Red Cross, Annapolis’ Crissis hotline, and made recordings for the blind.
Survivors include his wife of 2 years, Marilyn Vranas of Ashburn: two children, Fred Chasnov of Arlington and Barbara Surfas of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Susan Chasnov of Manhattan Beach, CA and Kimberly Nice of Beaver, PA; one great grandchild Madeline Nice; and brother Irving Chasnov of Northridge, CA.
Services will be held on Friday May 30 at 11:00 am at Loudoun Funeral Chapels in Leesburg VA. Following service, interment will be at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church.
