Betty Lu Houde's Obituary
BETTY LU HOUDE, 97, formerly of Cherry Tree, Pennsylvania, passed on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in Leesburg, Virginia.
Born Saturday, June 4, 1927, in Burnside, Pennsylvania, she was the granddaughter of the late John B Conner and the late Lura Weaver Conner. Betty Lu’s grandparents adopted her at the age of 2 following the sudden passing of her mother, Lura “Peggy” Elizabeth Conner Brickell.
In the late 1940s, Betty Lu moved to Washington, DC, and worked for Thompson’s Dairy. On May 5, 1950, she had a blind date with Maurice Arthur Houde. They married on Friday, September 12, 1952. Together they shared 36 years of marriage and raised three children in Northern Virginia. Betty Lu was a homemaker, PTA Treasurer, library volunteer, founding member of the Cherry Tree Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club, Reading Grandma at Cambria County Public Schools, and a faithful member of Cherry Tree United Methodist Church. She was devoted to her Siamese cat, Candy.
Betty Lu leaves many friends and family to cherish her memory including sons, David A Houde (Janet White Jackson) and Alan K Houde (Ann Brickfield Houde), daughter, Peggy H Fridley (William R Fridley), grandchildren, Justin Houde, Laura F Mathurin, Emma F Maynard, Curtis Houde, Alyssa Wellman Houde, and six great grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Maurice, predeceased her in 1989.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia. A funeral service will follow immediately after the viewing at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Chris Riedel officiating. Interment will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, Virginia.
