Obituary for Bruce Edward Biel
Bruce Edward Biel, 91, of Sterling Virginia passed away on August 10, 2018 at INOVA Loudoun Hospital Center. Born October 15, 1926 in Virginia, he was the son of Earl H. Biel Sr. and Eleanor (Harbach) Biel and spent much of his early years in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. Mr. Biel was, at various times of his life, a financial broker, a college professor and a life-time scholar. He was a graduate of Dickinson College, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Virginia. He achieved both a masters’ degree in English Literature and a second in Anthropology. Mr. Biel served in the U.S. Marines in both World War Two and the Korean Conflict as a second lieutenant. He was the recipient of the Silver Star for “Conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy”. Mr. Biel was a member of the Old Dominion Chapter, First Marine Division of Virginia. He is survived by his wife Imojean (Davidson) Biel formerly of Coalport, Pennsylvania whom he wed in Roanoke, Virginia in 1966. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Joan C. Biel of Palmyra, Virginia; a niece Christine B. Harper and her husband Bruce of Palmyra, Virginia; and a nephew Steven B. Biel and his wife Marianna of the Dominican Republic. Mr. Biel was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Earl H. Biel Jr. A memorial service will be held on September 8, 2018 at 2PM at Burnside Cemetery in Burnside, Pennsylvania. The family suggests contributions may be made to the Sterling Rescue Squad of Sterling, Virginia or a charity of your choice.
