Bruce Frederick Mundie's Obituary
Lt. Col (Ret) Bruce Frederick Mundie passed away early Christmas morning at his home in Round Hill Virginia.
Bruce was born in 1937 in Buffalo New York, son to F. Warren Mundie and Mildred Mundie (née Robertson) and was the youngest of six siblings. An avid hockey player, Bruce attended Kenmore High School and Purdue University where he met his future wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Seskarski. Bruce left Purdue to join the Air Force where he established his career as a military pilot.
Bruce flew a variety of aircraft for the Air Force, including the C-123 in Vietnam, which earned him a number of military awards, notably the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. He earned this honor as an Aircraft Commander at Bu Dop Airstrip, Republic of Vietnam on December 5, 1967. After leaving the Air Force, Bruce held senior positions within the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics and with the State of Maryland Aviation Administration.
Bruce was a true outdoorsman, teaching his five children to ice skate and ski while moving around the country through military assignment, settling in Papillion, Nebraska and then Pasadena, Maryland. For the past eight years, Bruce and his wife lived near family on a horse farm in Round Hill, Virginia.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Elizabeth and his children Joan (Joe) Simoneau, Susan (Rick) Sierra, Bruce (Susan) Mundie, Pamela (Jean-Philippe) Graff and Christine (Thomas) West as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Mundie. He will be lovingly remembered by all.
