CAROL JEAN HANES's Obituary
CAROL CROUCH HANES, 81 of Heathsville, Virginia, formerly of Leesburg, passed on Monday, February 13, 2023.
She was born Thursday, August 28, 1941, in Roanoke, Virginia to Beverly and Clonnie Crouch. She graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in Roanoke, Virginia and attended Radford College in Radford, Virginia for 2 years, completing her bachelor’s degree in history at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Carol was an integral part of her husband Bill Hanes’s law firm, Hanes & Dickerson, where she worked alongside him and her daughter, Melinda Hartman, for many years. In 2012, Carol and Bill retired from the business and moved to a beautiful home on the Wicomico River in Wicomico Church, Virginia. There they joined the Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club. Carol was a member of the small golfing group known as “The Gigi’s” and not only enjoyed their golf outings but their many social get togethers. She was also a member of the Maj Jong group at the club.
Carol is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Beverly Crouch of Warrenton, Virginia. She is survived by her husband, William B. Hanes (Bill), her daughter and husband, Melinda Dickerson Hartman (Mindy) and Josh Hartman, her sister, Judy Crouch Carroll and husband Michael Carroll, her step daughters, Cary Lee Hanes and husband Jeff Turner, and Cameron Hanes, and her grandchildren, Gray Hetzel, Beckham (Becks) Hetzel, Carter Hanes, Gracie Hanes, Jack Hartman and Charlotte Hartman, her niece, Allison Coppage and nephew and wife, Steven and Stephanie Crouch, and many cousins.
She will be remembered among family and friends for her strong sense of self, her dedication to her family, her support of women’s and children’s causes, her love for tennis, golfing and her enthusiasm for travel and adventure. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
A private family celebration of her life was held in Leesburg on February 16 at her daughter’s home.
