Charlie was such a joy to know. What a character! I have missed him for quite a while now. When I moved to Royal St., I got to know Donna's Dad, Mr. Athey. I just adored him. After he passed, Donna and Charlie moved in. I was so happy about that. They continued the legacy of the family by bringing their warmth and kindness to our street. When Charlie was well, he would often walk Royal St. and the neighborhood. Both of us loved gardening so I would often see him when I would be out working in my yard. He had many stories to tell and I would be hanging on to every word. Lots of times he would hook me, line and sinker, with his jokes and tales. It was so great to laugh with him. He always made the day brighter.
Both sides of my family were Holstein dairy farmers and also share the love of antiques. There was never a loss for things to talk about. Many members of my family enjoyed Charlie, as well. Charlie would always check out the projects that my brother, Perry, was doing at my house. And lots of times my Dad would be helping. They asked about Charlie often and we always looked forward to a visit from him.
We also loved our dogs! Charlie would come visit and give me comfort and support when my dog, Scout, was failing. He was really there when I needed someone to talk to. He could relate, as I had heard many stories about his beloved Snowball. What a kind soul...he gave so much to others...he somehow had the right words to say. Rest in peace, Charlie...you will always be missed! I send out sympathy and prayers for all the family. Donna, I am just down the street and here for you at any time! I send love and hugs to you, Charlie and the family! Linda Ifert
