Charles G. Dwyer's Obituary
Charles G. Dwyer, age 88, died of natural causes on Sunday, April 8th, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Miriam (2008), and his oldest son, Kevin (1989). He is survived by his children, David Dwyer, Colleen Dwyer Huhn (Christopher), Tara Dwyer-Allen (Julie), all of Leesburg, Virginia, and Brendan Dwyer (Laura) of southern California, as well as his four grandchildren, Tucker (Jessica), Eli, Franchessca, and Lucas. Additionally, he is survived by one sister, Dorothy Maag of Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He will be deeply missed beyond compare and he leaves behind many people whose lives will be forever impacted by his absence. Born and raised in Rockville Centre, New York, Dwyer graduated from South Side High School in 1948. A veteran of the Korean War, Dwyer had the distinction of possessing three Honorable Discharges: the United States Army, the United States Marine Corps Reserve, and the United States Naval Reserve, where he made a cruise aboard the battleship U.S.S. Missouri.
After his service to the United States, Dwyer met his wife while students at SUNY New Paltz, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. Dwyer was an elementary school teacher for 13 years in Nassau County, New York and 18 years in Fairfax County, Virginia. Dwyer retired from teaching in 1989 and made his part time Realtor position his full time focus.
He was one of Loudoun County's longstanding Realtors, having assisted countless families find the perfect home for almost 40 years. He was American Legion Post Commander of Post 303 in Rockville Centre, New York and a member of Post 34 in Leesburg. He was also a Charter/Life member of Council 6831, Knights of Columbus in Leesburg.
After fully retiring at the age of 85, he volunteered with Loudoun Senior Caregivers delivering food and providing transportation for others in his treasured Ford F150 pick-up truck. He was an avid Washington Redskins and Washington Nationals fan, as well as a dedicated parishioner at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church.
He was a history buff with a particular interest in the Civil War. He wrote many unpublished children's books and was a fantastic story teller. His life's pleasures included sharing a meal with family, enjoying a big bowl of ice cream, tending to his yard on his beloved John Deere tractor, and following current events.
Friends may call on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 6-8pm at Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 1:00pm at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church 101 Oakcrest Manor Drive, Leesburg, VA with interment to follow at St. John's Cemetery alongside his wife.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the local Birthright organization.
