Charles J. Smothers' Obituary
Charles Jerome Smothers departed this life on Friday, December 28, 2012, at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, Virginia. Charles was born in Burkittsville, Maryland, on April 4, 1921, to the late Charles Jerome Smothers, Sr. and Emma Mae Grayson. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters and his common law wife, Mary Catherine Marcellus. Charles was a World War II veteran. He was employed by Helmi Carr at Fort Evans Farm as a caretaker for over 40 years. He was also a part-time bartender. Charles was a member of the Old Friends Club and hosted many parties and functions. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching and listening to baseball, bowling and playing cards.
He is survived by one brother, James Smothers, and one sister, Estella Belt, of Brunswick, Maryland. Also left to mourn is a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Thursday, January 03, 2013 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, VA. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
