Troy Zimmerman
Charlie became friends with everybody he met, including the Zimmerman family as fellow residents of Broad Run Farms. If there was one constant, it was having Charlie as our State Senator. He was a public servant in the truest sense, going back to his time on the Board of Supervisors. I always remember my mother explaining how students in Loudoun had to purchase their textbooks until Charlie put an end to that inconceivable practice. I had the privilege of being one of his two staff assistants during the 1981 Legislative Session, working full-time in his Richmond office as a college student. While I was already a Political Science Major, that experience left no doubt in my mind that I wanted to work on Capitol Hill. For nine years following my graduation a year later, I had the good fortune of working for a U.S. Senator and a U.S. Representative.
My condolences to Charlie's entire family and his many friends.
