Christine Rosetta Anderson's Obituary
Christine Rosetta Anderson was born September 5, 1932 in Leesburg, Virginia to the late Charles and Myrtle Ambers. The Holy Spirit quietly ushered her into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.
At an early age, Christine dedicated and devoted her life to Christ. She was a faithful member of Central Union Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the Missionary Society.
Christine was a loving mother of eight adoring children and fun-loving grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was our champion supporter and encourager. She was best known for her baking, wit, love of history, current events, and sports. Some of our fondest memories of her were at family reunions, birthday parties, weddings, baby showers, and all holidays especially Christmas.
She worked for the United States Department of the Navy for over 20 years. After a stellar career she retired from her supervisory position in June 1994.
With divine vision Christine founded the Ambers Family Scholarship Fund to support family and friends attending college. She vigorously organized telethons, walkathons, raffles, bake sales, and made crafts to raise thousands of dollars to benefit the fund. Aided by the scholarship fund, students have attended Hampton University, The Ohio State University, Virginia Tech, Christopher Newport University, Bowie State University, Lincoln University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Mount Olive College, University of Maryland, and two with advanced degrees from University of Maryland University College. She attended all graduations and we will be saving a seat for her at Chrissi’s upcoming graduation from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
She was preceded in death by husbands Harold Haley and James Anderson; brother Jesse Preston Ambers, Sr.; sister, Martha Stokes, and grandson, Jermayne Young. She is survived by her children Eric Haley (Marilyn), Ronald Haley, Jerry Haley (Vickie), Charlene Hamilton (Bobby), Patricia Hawkins (Richard), Holly Haley (Tyrone), Phyllis Young (James), and Hillary Haley (Stephanie), and God-son Dennis Hall.
