To the entire Walter family and extended family. I have written this 5-6 times and then delete to redo.
I was fortunate enough to meet Dale after our daughters became best friends.
There is no doubt in my mind that he was a great father, friend, and patriot. and he will be missed.
I recently had another friend pass away that actually attended High School with Dale.
For me, it was odd and yet comforting to see faces I saw at Dales service at another service.
He was so well thought of and loved. I wish I had gotten to know him better.
The legacy he leaves is remarkable beyond the bounds of his incredible family.
Every life he touched was better for it and he was a better man for his connection to his faith.

I and the rest of the 9/11 Memorial Museum's Civic Training Programs team had the pleasure and privilege of working with Dale over the last several months to develop and conduct special museum programs for IC officers and analysts. Dale was a wonderful person, a great collaborator, and a true advocate for the importance of teaching young officers about ongoing impact of 9/11 on the IC and national security. We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and we will miss his friendship and insights more dearly than we can say. We wish his family peace and healing in the face of this terrible loss. In honor of Dale's memory, we have made a donation to the CIA Memorial Foundation, and we will continue to be inspired by his example.

Shana and I were stunned to learn that Dale’s amazing and powerful life force was taken so quickly. I will never forget our years as analysts together, when I was incredibly fortunate to have him as my closest collaborator. At a time when civility within and between agencies was at its nadir, we sustained an exceptionally close, productive, and really fun cross-office partnership, mostly because Dale’s expertise was so deep, his generosity was so extraordinary, and his sense of humor was so unfailing. At work he was devoted to teamwork, tradecraft, and the truth, while it was plain to all of us that outside the office he was entirely devoted to you, Janet, and to your kids. Our hearts go out to you and your family with sincere sympathy and great sadness.

Dale served as one of my section chiefs earlier in his career, although I had not seen him in recent years. He was a great leader and friend, someone I could always count on for sage advice, a steady hand, a ship in the storm. I am so saddened and offer my deepest condolences and prayers to his family. It was all too soon.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on Dale's passing. I was Director of the Office where the WIRe was produced when Dale served as its Managing Editor. We had known each other for most of his Federal career and then when he transitioned to the private sector. Dale brought a great deal of energy and creativity to the WIRe and made an enduring contribution not only to the day-to-day publication of the WIRe but also in continuing to evolve it to be the best current intelligence publication in the IC. He will be missed. My prayers and thoughts are with you, his family, and friends during this especially difficult time.
