David Teal Kuntz's Obituary
David Teal Kuntz, died January 5, 2018 from complications of a brief illness. He was born January 8, 1930 in Charleston, WV and raised in Swiss, Nicholas County, WV. He was the son of Edith Henshaw Kuntz and John A. Kuntz. David graduated from Nicholas County High School in 1947. He received a B.S. degree from West Virginia University and a simultaneous commission as a second lieutenant in the Air Force on June 4, 1951. While at WVU he was a charter member and officer of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. While at WVU he also met Pauline Leota Floyd, his future wife of 66 years; they were married November 21, 1951 in Morgantown, WV.
He entered active duty in the Air Force July 20, 1951, as part of the 1703rd Air Transport Group, Military Air Transport Service at Brookley Air Base, Mobile, AL. Later assignments took him and his family across the United States and around the world including Clark Air Base, Luzon, Philippines, Wheeler Air Base, Hawaii, and Hakata Air Station, Fukuoka, Japan, where he commanded the 6918th Security Squadron.
In August 1965, he was assigned to Headquarters, Air Force Security Service at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX, for duty on the Command Inspector General Team. In this position he inspected remote Air Force units throughout the world. In all, he lived in, worked in, or visited 64 countries and all 50 states.
After his Air Force career, he earned a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from St Mary’s University, San Antonio. He was certified as a school administrator and licensed as a marriage and family counselor. He continued to serve his community for more than 20 years as an educator in San Antonio Texas and as the President of San Antonio Ranch Municipal Utility District.
He is survived by his loving wife Pauline, and four children, Patricia Ann (Roger Falcone), John David, Mary Elizabeth, and Carol Ruth (Rodney Fabrycky) as well as seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher, Michael, Catharine, Grace, Benjamin, and Paul.
A service celebrating David’s life will be held at Galilee United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, with a reception following the service. The church is located at 45425 Winding Road, Sterling, VA 20165. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in David’s honor be provided to the Building Fund at Galilee Church. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
