Dean J. Rauer's Obituary
Dean J. Rauer of Aldie, Virginia passed away at his home on April 10, 2023.
He was born in North Salem, Linn County, Missouri on January 13, 1933.
Dean married Barbara Elam on August 13,1951 at the Ethel Presbyterian Church.
Dean served in the U.S. Army from May,1953 to May, 1955.
Upon his discharge, he was employed by MFA/Shelter Insurance Company where he spent his entire working career of 41 years. He was State Sales Manager for Nebraska, Illinois, and East Missouri.
Upon his retirement, he and Barbara purchased the family farm and moved back to the Ethel area. They opened White Oak Farm and Gift Shop; where they enjoyed meeting new people and seeing old acquaintances.
In 2013, they moved to Columbia, Missouri where they lived for two years until moving to Aldie, Virginia, because of health reasons, and to be closer to their family.
Dean was a big sports enthusiast and especially loved following the St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers football teams.
Surviving is his wife Barbara of Aldie, VA; daughter Paula Melander (Evert), Aldie, VA, and son Greg Rauer (Marie) of Floyd, VA. He has four grandchildren, Justin Melander (Sara) of Alexandria, VA, Jake Rauer (Samantha) of Floyd, VA, Keri Cook (Michael), of Aldie, VA, and Callie Rauer of Salina, OK; as well as five great grandchildren, Kensley and Kennedy Cook, Cade Rauer, Carson and Madeline Melander.
He is also survived by his sister, Shirley and Les Corey of Kansas City, MO, sister-in-law, Linda Colton of Leewood, KS, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Ray and Helen, brother Dale; brother-in-laws, Cliff Tracy and Frank Colton; and his in-laws, Barrett and Francis Elam.
Dean’s body will be cremated and upon the passing of his wife, they will both be buried at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Coyote Hill Foster Care Services, 9501 West Coyote Hill Road, P.O. Box 1, Harrisburg, MO 65256.
