Deborah Ellen Idlett
A true legend.
The one who brought us all together.
Who loved us and cared for us more than we could even imagine.
How very sad I am that she is gone.
Although I am heartbroken, I am comforted knowing that her memory will live on in all of us.
When Debbie brought me and my sons James and Joe into her life, the boys were attending Hutchison Elementary. One day the boys were having lunch and Debbie stopped by their table and said: Hey, would you boys please have your Mom call me… of course the boys immediately thought they were in trouble… when I received the message to call Debbie, it was followed by… but we didn’t do anything wrong. We laughed at that so many times over the years.
Debbie also brought into our lives the greatest treasure you could dream about… that was our beautiful Border collie rescue –
Samantha Ellen
In 2001, when David and I got engaged, Debbie was helping me look for a wedding dress when we stumbled upon a doggie rescue. This one dog came up to me and wouldn’t leave me… Debbie said you cannot leave this dog here… look, she won’t even leave you.
Well, I explained to Debbie that I’ve never had a dog and wouldn’t have a clue what to do so we ended up leaving to go look at dresses.
A short time later when we were leaving the mall, Debbie said let’s go see the rescues one more time... she was in a panic because she didn’t see the border collie from earlier. But then to her great relief, she yelled out “no there is she is.” Debbie really laid it on thick after that and said this will be Ronnie’s and my wedding gift to you and David.
So then, I called David and was trying to explain what happened… David said, I thought you were out looking for a wedding dress… I said we were but this beautiful dog from the rescue won’t leave me and nor will Debbie let me leave without her.
When David arrived, he asked us where’s the dog? I told him she’s right here hiding in the bushes and we can’t get her out. David just looked at us and finally coaxed her out of the bushes and off we went with David carrying her to his car.
Little did David and I know that Samantha Ellen (Ellen named after Debbie) would teach us what true love really is. Debbie loved animals… and this is just one of her beautiful stories.
Debbie was the greatest friend in all the world, and I was so fortunate to have Debbie as my Maid of Honor in our wedding. How much love and fun we shared with Debbie as my Maid of Honor, Ronnie as David’s Best Man, Kaleigh and Chris Macaoay singing a duet, and my sons by my side.
For anyone who attended our wedding, my dress had the longest train you ever saw… (think Princess Diana’s Wedding Dress). I didn’t really want it, but Debbie loved the train on my dress so much that I decided to make it a detachable train so that I could actually walk around after the ceremony.
How I think of this and so many other things that happened in our lives with Debbie.
How I miss you Deb so much – forgive me that I wasn’t there in your life in these past years… I didn’t even know you had gotten sick with cancer ten years ago and this makes me so very sad. I love you and will keep you close to my heart always.
Farewell for now my dearest friend until we meet again in heaven.
All Our Love,
Roxy, David, James, Joe, and (Samantha Ellen at Rainbow’s Bridge since Nov 2013)
