Donald Clifford Oberg's Obituary
Donald "Obie" Oberg age 74 passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 29, 2016 in Annandale Virginia.
He was born on July 11, 1942, in Portland, son of the late Clifford and Irene (Hollywood) Oberg.
Donald attended Deering High School in Portland, Maine, where he was a valuable member of both the baseball and basketball teams. Donald went on to attend Colby College where he majored in Business Administration. Dons’ work ethic was always above and beyond. While at Colby studying and competing in basketball, Don continued to have a job to help support himself and his family. He enlisted in the Navy and attended Officer Candidate School in Pensacola Florida where he became a Lieutenant. Don served in the Navy as a navigator traveling to many places collecting many treasures to bring home to his parents and sisters Diane and Sue. Don was a navigator on C130's during the Vietnam War. On December 1, 1973, he married the love of his life, Grace Marie (Phillipo) Oberg. Don and Grace enjoyed many camping trips together, always taking their nieces and nephews with them. Together they had two beautiful daughters, Laurie Ann (Oberg) Hilton of Ashburn Virginia and Ann-Marie Oberg of Portland, Maine. Don was a hardworking man from a young age. His work ethic continued as he was always working to provide for his family. He spent many years working for New England Lobster and Bait, R&S Seafood, Resource Trading Center and Cozy Harbor Seafood on the waterfront in Portland. When he wasn't at work on the waterfront, Don was attending his daughters sporting and school events. Don was a devoted grandfather (Papa) to Andrew II and Ashton, attending countless soccer games and baseball games. He would play outside with the boys for hours, pitching baseballs, playing catch and watching them ride their bikes.
Don was loved by all he came in contact with. He had an infectious smile and a real charm about him. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Donald is survived by his wife of 43 years, Grace Marie; two daughters, Laurie Ann and her husband Andrew; and Ann-Marie; and two grandsons, Andrew II and Ashton Hilton. He is also survived by two sisters, Diane Oberg Jamison; and Sue Rand and her husband Rick; and many nieces and nephews.
