Dorothy Collier Baker's Obituary
Dorothy “Dot” Collier Baker, age 101, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, at her home in Leesburg, VA, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 25, 1925, in Big Stone Gap, VA, the daughter of the late Canie and Lizzie Collier.
Dot was a truly special woman whose kindness and warmth touched everyone she met. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for conversation, making people feel instantly welcome and at ease. Her gentle spirit, genuine interest in others, and easy laughter left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Family was the center of Dot’s life. She especially cherished the time she spent with her great-grandsons, who brought her endless joy and pride. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or a delicious meal together, those times meant the world to her.
Dot also found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. In her younger years, she loved crocheting, often creating beautiful handmade pieces for those she loved. She enjoyed working puzzles, always appreciating a good challenge, playing Rummikub with friends, and faithfully cheering on her favorite team, the Washington Commanders, through the years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Sanford Baker. She is survived by her loving daughter, Brenda Baker; two granddaughters, Michelle Bluhm and Sharon Johnson; and three great-grandsons, Zachary, Tanner, and Grayson, all of whom will continue to carry her love and memory in their hearts.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606.
Dot’s legacy of kindness, warmth, and love will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
