Dorothy Pearl Hoover's Obituary
Dorothy P. Hoover (also known as “Dot”), 86, of Sterling, VA, passed away on the morning of Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Loudoun Inova Hospital near Leesburg, VA.
Dorothy was born on January 29, 1938 in Buckhannon, WV to the late Clifford Fallen and the late Eva Hiner Fallen.
Preceding Dorothy in death was her son, Ronald (“Ronnie”) Hoover and her husband of 61 years, Ronald (“Ron”) Hoover.
She is survived by her son, Randy Hoover of Winchester, VA, her daughter, Wendy Hoover of Sterling, VA and her daughter, Melinda Greene of Leesburg, VA.
Dorothy is also survived by four grandsons; Ryan, Jeremy, Ronnie and Corey Hoover, one granddaughter; Makayla Greene, as well as three great grandchildren. All of Dorothy’s grandsons and great-grandsons live in Virginia and her granddaughter, resides near Pittsburgh, PA.
Dorothy and her late husband Ron had been residents of Sterling, VA since 1972, where they relocated their family from their prior residence in Falls Church, VA.
Prior to moving to Falls Church, VA in 1959 to start a family, both Dorothy and Ron lived in their childhood hometown of Buckhannon, WV where they met.
Dorothy graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1957 and worked as a care giver to an elderly family friend. Following graduation, she was employed by the local telephone company as a switchboard operator.
In 1958, Dorothy was introduced to Ron and they became sweethearts, eventually marrying in April of 1959 in Buckhannon. Shortly thereafter, Dorothy and Ron relocated from Buckhannon to Falls Church, VA to start their life together.
Once relocated in Virginia, Dorothy accepted a job with C&P Telephone Company in Washington, D.C., as a switchboard operator. Thirteen months after their relocation to Virginia, Dorothy and Ron started their family and welcomed their first son, Randy in June of 1960.
In the proceeding 9 years, Dorothy and Ron welcomed three more children into the world. As a loving and devoted homemaker, Dorothy proudly provided her four children with beautiful, safe and loving homelives in Falls Church, VA and later in Sterling, VA.
After raising her four children and after her two sons started their own married lives, Dorothy worked several part time positions in and around the Sterling are, including at Meadows Farms Nursery and with a local homebuilder, Van-Metre Homes.
In 1999, as empty nesters, Dorothy and Ron took a completely new path by taking over proprietorship of an antique business in Lucketts, VA known as “My Wits End”.
During the 21 years that Dorothy and Ron ran the business, they made many friends and associations in and around the Loudoun County region as well as other antiques business owners in the area. My Wits End became synonymous with Dorothy and Ron, and it also became a very popular stop for many travelers along Route 15 heading and north and south of the Loudoun County area.
Shortly following the closure of their business in 2020, Ron’s health began to fail and in November of that year, Dorothy lost the love of her life when Ron passed away.
In the years following Ron’s death, Dorothy continued to live in the family home in Sterling with daughter Wendy. Dorothy’s health began failing in 2022 and after two years of putting up a good fight, she passed away on September 29, 2024.
In addition to the aforementioned, immediate family, Dorothy is survived by three younger sisters, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many cousins located in West Virginia, Ohio, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida.
A private service for Dorothy’s immediate family was held on October 1, 2024 prior to her cremation at Loudoun Funeral Chapel and Crematorium in Leesburg, VA.
