Dorothy Kerwin Bowman's Obituary
MRS. DOROTHY KERWIN BOWMAN, 95,a life long resident of Loudoun County died on Friday, March 27, 2009 in Leesburg. Mrs. Bowman was born December 18, 1913 in Aldie to the late Daniel Franklin and Susan Fletcher Kerwin. Her husband Arlis H. Bowman and son, Robert M. Bowman also predeceased her. She was the last surviving of 9 children. Mrs. Bowman and her husband operated the Bowman Country Store in the Floris Community along Centreville Road from 1932 until 1957. At the store local residents could purchase gas, bread, canned foods, kerosene, soda pop and various other items. They also bought and sold furniture at the store. Mrs. Bowman and her family moved over on Rt. 7 near Dranesville Road and built several buildings along Rt. 7 before anything was there. The building that is currently home to Fairfax Auto Parts was built by the Bowmans and is the building they operated Bowman’s Furniture and Appliance store out of for many years. The Bowman’s also built and leased space for the old Sterling Motel and Amaco Service Station along Rt. 7.
Mrs. Bowman is survived by her three Grandsons: Michael Bowman of Broad Run Farms, Robert Bowman of Sterling, Billy Bowman of Sterling; Daughter-in-law: Dottie Bowman of Sterling; Sister-in-law: Louise Bowman of Purcellville; beloved friends Roger and Kaye Spinks of Broad Run Farms; 6 Great Grand children and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 11am until the time of services at 1PM. Interment will be in Leesburg Union Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department.
