"Dude" Lester O. Moxley, Sr.'s Obituary
Lester Oden "Dude" Moxley, Sr., 89, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at home in the care of loved ones.
Dude was born on Friday, February 25, 1921 in Leesburg, VA. He was a son of the late Thomas Oden Moxley and the late Margaret Dunn Moxley. Dude lived most all of his life in Leesburg, except for when he served his country in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 until 1945, and was a Veteran of World War II. He worked as a lineman for VEPCO for over 34 years until retiring in 1981.
He was proud to be a member of Leesburg United Methodist Church, and honorary member of the Loudoun County Vol. Rescue, a past member of the Leesburg Vol. Fire Department and a 50 year member of the Mason’s, Olive Branch Lodge #114.
He is survived by his son, Dude Moxley, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Carolyn of Lovettsville, VA, his daughter, Susan E. Moxley of Charles Town, WV, his sister, Dorothy Jewell of Leesburg, VA, his son-in-law, William H. Spencer, III, of Roanoke, VA; 5 grandsons, Christopher Todd Spencer, Allan Edwards, Thomas Moxley, Tyler Moxley, and Trent Moxley; 2 great grandsons, William Scott Spencer, II and Zack Spencer. Dude was also survived by his companion Doris Woods of Leesburg, his sister-in-law: Evelyn Moxley of Leesburg, his devoted caregiver Pat Trammell of Purcellville, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Bertha Newberry Moxley in 1987; two daughters, Barbara Spencer in 2009 and Mary Margaret Moxley in 1961. Dude was also predeceased by two sisters Pearl and Grace Heskett, and two brothers, William Moxley, and Clagett “Mutt” Moxley, Sr. in 2006, a grandson, William Scott Spencer in 1996.
Friends may call on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Jim Wishmyer officiating.
