Edgar Holbert's Obituary
Edgar Lee Holbert, age 90, of the Plainview Community, Dunn died Wednesday, September 13, 2017. He passed away peacefully, at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab Center after a short period of declining health.
Mr. Holbert was born August 21, 1927 in Waterford, Virginia to the late Arnold Lee Holbert and Linda Ellen Hatfield Holbert. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane Franklin Holbert, Sisters Irma (Peggy) Norman and Fleita Sherrod, and a brother Fred Holbert.
Ed Holbert was a farmer for many years and then changed professions when he became a plumber and pipefitter. He worked for many companies in the Maryland, D.C. and Northern Virginia area. He was a WWII veteran, where he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Mr. Holbert was a member of American Legion, Banner Post #109 in Benson, North Carolina where he always enjoyed the dances on Tuesday evenings, for many years. He especially enjoyed Carolina Panthers football and a good, hot cup of coffee.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Hamilton, Virginia.
Survivors include his five children, Steven L. Holbert and wife Connie, of London, Ontario Canada; David A. Holbert and wife Robin, of Waco, Texas; Michael F. Holbert and wife Connie, of Greensboro, North Carolina; Susan E. Holbert of Falls Church, Virginia; Gary W. Holbert and wife Lisa, of Dunn, North Carolina; Eleven Grandchildren and Eleven Great-Grandchildren; Two brothers-in- Law, John Franklin and wife Ann, of Granger, Texas and Albert Franklin and wife Martha, of Petersburg, Virginia and many cousins, nieces and nephews from coast to coast.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a church or charity of one’s choice
