Edith Morrison Shiely's Obituary
Edie Shiely was born on Sept 18, 1922 on Prince Edward Island Canada and raised in West Newton MA. She passed away on Feb 13, 2017 with her family nearby. She worked in Boston and then met Cadet Al Shiely on a blind date at West Point. They were married at Westover Field, MA on Sept 9, 1944 and thus began the adventure. They were stationed in England for a short time after the war and had many various AF duty stations to include Germany, Illinois, Virginia, Maryland and New York -- making friends to last a lifetime. She was lucky enough to be stationed twice at Hanscom AFB near Boston as it was close to her family and friends.
After retirement in 1974 they purchased a 1700's colonial farmhouse in Barrington NH. She enjoyed starting from scratch restoring and redecorating the old home. It became a showplace for Historical Society Tours. After Al died in 1989, she maintained the farmhouse until her move to Falcons Landing in Sterling, VA in 1999.
Edie was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed a full life. Even with raising 3 children, being the wife of an AF officer as he rose up the ranks, and moving around the country, Edie found time to volunteer for the Red Cross, Womens Clubs, reading to children, numerous associations, Frisbie Hospital, greeting Vietnam Vets during the war, and being a greeter at her church.to name a few. She was always the perfect hostess to any and all who came to visit and was loved by all who knew her. She loved being with and socializing with her many friends and greeting everyone she met at Falcons Landing. She became a fixture who brought smiles to many with her musical "toys", happy greetings, and bright eyes meeting all new residents and knowing the entire staff over her stay there.
Our thanks to all at Falcons Landing and the Johnson Center for making her stay and care the best she could ask for.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, the Sterling, VA Volunteer Rescue Squad (https://www.sterlingrescue.org/content/donation/) or the Barrington, NH Fire and Rescue (603-664-2241).
She is predeceased by her parents William and Isabelle Morrison and her husband, Maj Gen Albert R. Shiely Jr. She is survived by three children, Diane Frykman and husband Rick, Buzz Shiely and wife Robyn and Barbara Shiely and her partner Derryll Brudzinski, three grandchildren, Tad Shiely, Katie McQuitty, and Adriane Wilson and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Falcons Landing, 20522 Falcons Landing Circle, Sterling, VA 20165 on March 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
Interment services will be Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Greenhill Chapel on the grounds of Pine Grove Cemetery in Barrington New Hampshire.
