Edith Simpson Holman's Obituary
EDITH SIMPSON HOLMAN, 82, of Southport, Florida since 1981, died in Rockville, MD on Monday September 10, 2007 while visiting family in the area. Mrs. Holman was born March 3, 1925 in Loudoun County, Virginia to the late Luther Levin and Bertha Catherine (Wiley) Simpson. Her beloved husband of 32 years Mr. Rufus Holman also predeceased Mrs. Holman in 1981. She was raised in western Loudoun County and was the valedictorian of her class in 1942 from Lincoln High School. Mrs. Holman was a military spouse who lived several places inside and outside of the United States from 1949 until 1962 when she settled in Panama City, Florida. She worked in the business office at Lisenby Hospital for about ten years before working with Gulf Coast Medical Center until her retirement in 1982. Mrs. Holman was a member of the First Pentecostal Church, Panama City, Florida and a former member and treasurer of the Sand Hills Volunteer Fire Department. She was also the Volunteer Coordinator at Tyndall Air Force Base Hospital for several years.
Mrs. Holman is survived by three children: Bonnie O’Melia of Lynn Haven, FL, Faith Holman of Lynn Haven, FL, Keith and wife Betty Holman of Germantown, MD; one sister: Mary Louise Holbert of Warrenton, VA; two brothers: Eugene Simpson of Hamilton, VA, Ray Simpson of Goodman, Missouri; four grandchildren: Paul and wife Sherry O’Melia, Michele O’Melia, Glen O’Melia, Ryan Holman; one great grandson Andrew O’Melia and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE Leesburg, VA 20175 on Thursday September 13, 2007 from 6-8pm and on Monday September 17 from 6-8pm at the Southerland Funeral Home on 19th Street, Panama City, Florida. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday Sept. 18 at the First Pentecostal Church on Tyndall Parkway, Panama City, FL with Rev. Allen Crabtree officiating. Interment will follow in Parker Cemetery, Parker, FL.
